This summary is provided by L. Lanzerotti, Township Committee Liaison to the Bd of Heath. This report will also be appended to the Township Committee Meeting minutes of March 23, 2011.
Hanover released Health Educator Dorothy Zufall, Ed.D. as a cost saving measured.
Dorothy prepared health bulletins and news releases for use by the Hanover, Harding and Morris Township Health Departments.
Dorothy also conducted monthly meetings, some at the Harding Seniors and once at the Harding Library, but mostly at the Hanover Library. Harding residents were welcome to attend.
In order to meet the requirements of Public Health Practice Standards of Performance For Local Boards of Health In New Jersey (N.J.A.C. 8:52-1.1, et seq.) and the interlocal services agreement between Hanover and Harding, George Van Orden, Ph.D., will assume the position of Health Educator, assisted by nursing supervisor, Katherine Whitehead.
Instead of always creating original material for use as press releases and public information bulletins, we will use more generic material prepared by others, edited to meet local needs.
Instead of a staff person only delivering health messages, we will recruit specialists from the public health field, hospitals, and the pharmaceutical industry to deliver messages.
Instead of having special presentations on a monthly basis, health education will be incorporated to a greater extent at other Health Department functions, such as early detection screenings and flu shot clinics.
Instead of having a staff person answering all resident and employee questions, we may have to refer some questioners to outside resources.
