Env Comm Proposes Removing 65 Street Lights

The Harding Township Environmental Commission made a proposal to the Township Committee that approximately 65 street lights be eliminated. This will save an estimated $6090 per year in electricity costs and reduce CO2 emissions by about 16 tons annually.

The Harding Township Environmental Commission made a proposal to the Township Committee that approximately 65 street lights be eliminated. This will save an estimated $6090 per year in electricity costs and reduce CO2 emissions by about 16 tons annually.

Approximate counts and locations of the targeted street lights are as follows: Spring Valley (about 20), Village (about 16), Meyersville (5), Dicksons Mill (8), Blue Mill (5), Miller (3), Pleasantville (4), Kitchell (2), Woodland (3) and Featherbed (1). Lights at intersections are NOT proposed for removal. A map of the locations is available at your Civic Associations' website

The short report by the Environmental Commission is also available. The report recommends that implementation "should include review by the township police and the Department of Public Owrks and input from the residents in general".

The Township Committee is asking for citizen input before any decision is made.
