Township Organizational Meeting – Marshall Bartlett Mayor

On January 13, Harding Township government had its annual organizational meeting when the mayor and deputy mayor are chosen and sworn in and the various boards, committee and commissions are staffed.

Louis Lanzerotti was sworn in as Committee person after he and Regina Egea were re-elected in November. Mrs. Egea, who didn't attend this meeting, had been sworn in earlier.

Marshal Bartlett was sworn as Mayor for a third year. In Harding's form of government, the mayor is not chosen directly in a general vote. Rather the five township committee (TC) people chose the mayor (technically the chairperson) from among themselves.

Nicolas Platt was sworn is a Deputy Mayor.

At the 12/22/11 Township Committee (TC) Meeting, the Finance Committee discussed how the 2012 budget was shaping up. Recall that the Township budget discussed here relates only to about 25% of your total property tax burden. The other 75% goes to fund the school (about half) and support the county (about a quarter).

Please note the Township Committee has rescheduled their Reorganization Meeting to FRIDAY, JANUARY 13, 2012, at 6:30 p.m.  This date change may require some Township Boards & Commissions to reschedule their reorganization meetings to after the 13th.

HARDING TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE

Notice of Meeting Rescheduling

 The Regular Session Meeting of the Harding Township Committee scheduled for Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at 6:30 p.m., at the Municipal Building, Kirby Hall, 21 Blue Mill Road, New Vernon, has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 22, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., same location. 

All Committee persons were in attendance.

Discussion of Freak October Snow Storm

Mayor Bartlett said that he was “proud of how the township worked.”  The staff communicated well with JCP&L though the utilities response was “terrible” especially the information given by their automated calling facility.  Hardings new Emergency Preparedness Committee will have to decide and recommend a course of action which could include joining a lawsuit by Warren Township and other municipalities that is rumored to be in the works.  The sense was that JCP&L (now part of an Ohio headquartered company) performed significantly worse than PSE&G (which is still HQ’ed in NJ).
